The Portugal Digital Awards are divided into three categories:

Within the Digital Transformation Awards category, which comprises eight awards, FoodinTech, with its IFishCan project, won the Best Startup award. This award recognises the best B2B startup contributing to the digital transformation of large organisations.

The main evaluation criteria for applicants in this category include:

  • The business impact in terms of efficiency across different departments.
  • The level of technological innovation demonstrated through the use of technologies and/or innovation accelerators.

The IFishCan project

The IFishCan project was co-funded by the European Union and organised by EIT Digital, EIT Food and EIT Manufacturing.

The project was developed by a consortium comprising FoodinTech Lda., INESC TEC, AI Talentum and AZTI, and was implemented at the Conservas Pinhais production facility.

The project involved implementing a technological ecosystem integrating IoT, an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and AI. The solution was designed to be easily adaptable, scalable and highly customisable for different industries and products.

This technological ecosystem provides SMEs with the opportunity to trial advanced digital tools, helping to reduce food waste and the environmental impact of their production operations. It also introduces predictive capabilities through Artificial Intelligence to support decision-making, particularly in optimising water and energy consumption.

With over 10 years of experience in industrial production and quality management software, Flow technology helps support and accelerate decision-making. As a result, industrial companies can achieve higher levels of competitiveness and profitability.

As part of the iFishCan project, Flow contributes to reducing food loss and waste in fish processing. This solution plays an important role in improving efficiency and sustainability throughout the agri-food sector's value chain.

By applying machine learning techniques to food processing data, quality parameters and environmental impact indicators, the solution will generate prescriptive and predictive insights into the most critical points of the value chain in real time.

The IFishCan solution enables immediate corrective actions to prevent food loss and waste (FLW) and improve various environmental impact indicators associated with current circular economy policies, such as carbon and water footprints.
