Demo4Green — Green Manufacturing: Demonstrating Technologies to Fight Climate Change

Demo4Green is a project within EIT Manufacturing, focused on demonstrating technologies that support more efficient and sustainable industrial production.

FoodInTech was selected to participate in the programme, which aimed to provide industrial companies with new ways to collect, visualise and use production data to support operational management and more efficient resource utilisation.

Turning production data into actionable insights

One of the main objectives of Demo4Green was to provide companies with production management information and key performance indicators (KPIs) by collecting data directly from their operations.

The project included the use of simple operator-system interfaces, designed to be accessible even to shop floor workers with limited technical expertise.

Digitalising manual processes too

Not all industrial operations are performed or monitored directly by machines.

Demo4Green also considered predominantly manual operations — with Flowtech itself highlighting deboning processes as an example — where automated data collection can be more challenging.

In this context, the project explored intelligent ways to:

  • Collect information directly from operations;
  • Make production data available;
  • Visualise relevant performance indicators;
  • Facilitate interaction between operators and digital systems;
  • Improve resource efficiency.

Insights for more efficient production

The structured collection and visualisation of data provides greater insight into the performance of industrial operations.

Within Demo4Green, this approach aimed to contribute to:

  • More efficient use of resources;
  • Improved access to production information;
  • Availability of management KPIs;
  • Support for industrial performance analysis;
  • More economically and environmentally efficient production processes.

Flow technology applied to the project

During the public presentation of Demo4Green, INESC TEC identified FLOW M as one of the technologies demonstrated within the project.

Developed by Flowtech, the solution was presented as an adaptable technology suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), enabling real-time monitoring and control of performance and information across an industrial ecosystem, from different locations.

Technology and industrial sustainability

Demo4Green aimed to demonstrate how the digitalisation of production and access to operational data can contribute to more efficient resource utilisation and more sustainable manufacturing models.

By making production information more accessible to operators and management teams, the project brings technology closer to the real needs of the shop floor and demonstrates the practical application of digital tools in industry.
